In thermal radiation modeling feature in StarCD, whether theraml radiation due to hot gases are taken care of. Patches and view factors are defined in StarCD for surface to surface radiation modeling; how the radiation due to hot gases are accounted for or it has to be modeled separately.

Appreciate your reply. Thanks

AK,

Gas radiation requires a participating media radiation model.

The surface-to-surface radiation models only allow surface exchange. For this reason they cannot account for absorption or emission from a continuous media such as a hot gas.

You would need to use the Discrete Ordinates approach to meet your requirements. You will need to know the absorption coefficient of the gases. Gases have complicated, non-gray radiation properties that are usually approximated with various levels of simplifications.

If your hot, radiating gases are CO2 and H2O then suitable approximations can be found. If there are other participating gases in your problem then you have some work ahead of you.
