you should not do this it is not supported

Re: STAR CCM+ v3.02
from the release notes:
New Features in Initial Release (2.06.004) * Volume Meshing o Better control of template mesh sizes for trimmer o Generation of 100% tet/prism mesh for export to non-poly-enabled packages Mesh -> Models -> Prism Layer -> Generate standard cells only Now we just need some way to export the created mesh to v326 ;-) |
Re: STAR CCM+ v3.02
Hi Bastil,
I run these tet-meshes (incl. prismlayer) on Star-cd-V3.26. There is a work-around: 1. make sure, that polyhedral cell generation in sublayer generation is not allowed. 2. export the mesh to *.ccm 3. read-in the *.ccm into Star-CD-V4.x 4. make a cdsave 5. get a small program from cd-adapco, which converts the polyhedral to regular cells 6. read in *.vrt and *.cel into Star-CD V3.x Okay, I know, a nightmare, but it works. And I really get very nice meshes, even on complex geometries. My personal opinion: if your tet-mesh is of good quality , you can trust the simulation. What should be different to polyhedral cells? Or even compared to hex-meshes on complex geometries. So far, i have not seen any really good hex-mesh on a complex geometry created by one of the socalled (half-)automatic mesh generators. I do not have the time to spend 1 to 4 weeks on meshing. my colleagues expect to get a solution within 1 to 3 days on a 2 million cell case. We also did a lot of validation work, and for may applications (HVAC), I am really happy with my results. tom |
