to segregate surface

How can we segregate the surfaces during and after doing the domain or mesh generation? If I start with database 3 in proam, with 10 separate surfaces which form an aircraft, can I still retain the separate 10 surfaces after doing the volume mesh? Please explain the steps to do this if such is possible.
