Average Temperature vs. Location, Star-CCM+

I am new at this, but I am running STAR-CCM+ 2.08.007 and am simulating fluid flow in a solid pipe with heat transfer (3D). I am having trouble figuring out how to generate a plot of the Average Temperature vs. Location Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to create a user-specified field function to average the temperature at different locations along the length of the pipe?

You will need to create a series of plane sections along the length of the pipe then create an area averaged report & monitor for each. It would probably be a good idea to upgrade to the latest version (3.02) too as you can produce constrained sections which you will need if there is much of a curve in the pipe.

Is there an alternative method? I am trying to generate a plot for a relatively long section and am trying to avoid having to create a large number of plane sections individually to achieve the desired data resolution. I will look into downloading the upgrade.

Make a slice along the length of the pipe and monitor temperature that way?

Can you take the area averaged temperature at different locations along the slice? I'm not having trouble monitoring or plotting temperature, just looking for a good way to plot the Average Temperature profile. thanks for the replies

Are you talking about averaging in time? If so there are field variance monitors available.

if a constrained plane section slice is giving the average you want, you could fairly easily make a java macro to change the location of the slice and report the value out to a file. I did a similar thing when I needed point values for temperature and velocity at ~100 different points.
