I have an old .mdl file stored in a tape. The old .mdl file was recently being converted from tape to my hardisk.

When I read the file, error message printed is:

resume,C:/file1.mdl **WARNING - RESUMING FROM FILE CREATED ON VERSION 3.100 **ERROR WHILE READING RESUME FILE C:\file1.mdl

DATA MAY NOT BE COMPLETELY RESTORED

(MAY BE OK IF RESUMING FROM A FILE CREATED ON A LOWER VERSION) ************************************************** ********** *** *** pro-STAR Version 4.06.008 *** Build Date = JUN-30-2008 *** Copyright (C) 1988-2008 CD-adapco *** ************************************************** **********

Please give me some helps on this matter.

Thank you!

As it is said in the error message it "may be ok if resuming from a file created on a lower version", so first try to look at it - may be it was read. If not, than probably you have to look for older versions of Star-CD (3.2x or even 3.15 if it wouldn't help) and try reading the model with them.

Thank you Anton.

The mesh can be read after converting from tape to hardisk through binary code (previously I converted to ASCII).

However, the mesh is distorted and is not ready for simulation in this form. In addition, the coverted mesh can not be saved in current start-CD package v4. Do you have any idea what going wrong?

I agree that resuming through the lower version may be an effective way. But, I have difficultis to get an old version.

I think going through the older version is the only way. You can try to contact CD-Adapco, may be it's possible to send them the model and get it back in a new format

Hi

If your grid does not contain samm type cells then you could try saving it as an ansys, nastran or some other format and then read it into star 4. I've had to do this on a number of occasions and it's worked quite well.

Thank you.

I exported the old .mdl file as nastran format and then reloaded successfully using star-CD 4.
