Particle-Laden Flow Tutorial
 
Dear all,


I have a question related to Particle-Laden Flow Tutorial. in this tutorial the star-ccm+ partially blocked elbow duct is used to simulate Particle-Laden Flow. i do not know how to find that in which way the duct geometry was created, i want to know if that duck is solid or has thickness.
because i am going to simulate in Particle-Laden Flow in pipe so do have to create a solid cylinder (one circle and extrude it) or as pipe has a thickness ( two circle subtract them and then extrude it ).

That particular duct is a solid. Unless you are modeling heat transfer through the wall, then geometric wall thickness is not required.

in my case i want to model the erosion in pipe which liquid( oil) and sand are inside the pipe, do i have to create a solid geometry of pipe or creating a pipe with specific thickness??

Create a solid pipe (the wall of which will be representative of the inner wall).

I suggest you go through the "Modeling Erosion" tutorial, it should answer your questions.

Modeling Physics > Modeling Multiphase Flow > Using the Lagrangian Multiphase Model > Working with Lagrangian Phase Models > Modeling Erosion

Hi again,

thanks for your suggestion f-w. yes its written that the erosion depends on the type of the wall material. when you choose the model of erosion, there is a material particle in the model but still i can not find the material of the wall. and i am not sure if Bai-Gosman that is what i am looking for or not.

The wall material is taken care of using coefficients specified by the user in the erosion models. More info in: Modeling Physics > Modeling Multiphase Flow > Using the Lagrangian Multiphase Model > Formulation > Erosion

Expand Continua->Expand your Solid continua->Expand Models->Expand solid. It defaults to Al, right click and hit replace with.

but according to the tutorial that is the properties of the solid particle which entrained in the liquid which is written in the tutorial ((Sand particles are entrained in the liquid flow in this simulation and so the density of the Lagrangian phase must be set to the density of sand-- In the Continua > Physics 1 > Models > Lagrangian Multiphase > Lagrangian Phases > Phase 1 node, open the Models > Solid > Al > Material Properties > Density node and select the Constant node.))

so if that is the properties of particle, where should we change the properties of the pipe( in the tutorial is duct)

I looked at this tutorial: you are not actually modelling the pipe in it (i.e. no mesh is being generated to represent the volume of the pipe, only of the surface). The pipe's material properties are being set on the wall boundaries within the fluid continua.
