I tried posting a thread on a different sub forum yesterday, and it stated that it needs moderator approval. Does anyone know how long this typically takes? And does this have to happen every time I post a new thread?

This only happens if our spam-filters detects that there is a risk that the message is spam. We use many types of spam-filters, Bayesian filters, IP block-lists, keywords, reputation indexes, ... If you are using an IP address that others may have used before to post spam that will most likely make your post auto-moderated. If you post a message with many links (to sites or pictures) that will also increase your spam rating. Once you have posted a bunch of messages and gained a "good reputation" in our system you will not have these problems. Approval of auto-moderated messages is usually done within 24h. I just approved your moderated message.

I see. Okay, thank you. Some of the thread that I try to submit don't even get posted with that message. They just disappear. I think it's because I tried to post images of my results (for better clarification). Is there a better way to input images to avoid this?

Sometimes people re-post the same message when their first one was auto-moderated by our filters. When we approve auto-moderated messages we try to avoid approving the same message more than once. Perhaps your second message was very similar to your first message?

No, it was a very different question with vastly different text. It's completely gone and I have no idea why. I had a bunch of imgur links on it though for different screenshots of my solution. Maybe that's why? Is there a better source to use for posting images that won't get flagged as spam?

Then it was most likely a mistake by a moderator who thought that it was two similar messages, or perhaps you just previewed and did not save the second post. Please re-post. Once you have posted a few good messages your reputation index will be increased and you will not have these auto-moderation problems.
