Forum & Wiki account

Hello there,

however I have been using the wiki and book sections of CFD-online as an information source for quite a while, it is only today that I have finally made an account for myself.

I made my account under the forum section and later on I wanted to edit/add some content in the wiki however I could not log in to the wiki with my account. I consider this to be odd. Do you need a separate account for the wiki or am I doing something foolishly wrong?

CFD-Wiki and the forums are run with two different software packages (MediaWiki and vBulletin). We have decided to keep the two sections separate in order to make upgrades easy to do. Hence, you have to register separately for each section. I know it would be easier for users to have just one user database, but that would force us to install a non-standard user handling add-on in one of the packages.

Okey nice to know. It is indeed inconvenient for users to require separate accounts for the wikis and for the forums. However if the reason is to easily upgrade a website, it is for the best.

Because the wiki did not recognise my forum account, I am guessing that I can use the same user name for both the wiki and forum. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If the username is free you can use whatever name you want. There is always a risk that the username has been taken by someone else.
