Line probe perendicular to a surface

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I am trying to place line probes so that they are purpendicular to a surface (see image). I would like them to be placed so that they are in line with the mesh.

Does anyone know a way of doing this please?

Thanks

To figure out the details might take a bit of work, but something along these lines should work (I think):
  1. Use a field function to get the surface normal direction (see help manual).
  2. Write a macro to create the probes based on that field function.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.

I have been searching in the help files for how to obtain the surface normal direction using a field function but I cant seem to find it anywhere. Do you have any idea how to do this?

Thanks

search "Calculating and Visualizing Face Normals" in the help manual.

Does it matter that my simulation is 2D as this doesnt seem to be working for me. I used the example that was given in the help file.

Thanks
