Hi everyone,

Has anyone simulated any heat exchanger (HEX) in star-ccm+?

I have characteristic of a HEX from experiment; i.e. I have gas flow rate as a function of pressure and temperature (P,T) and I Would like to implement this in the programme.

Any feedback?

there are options such as dual stram heat exchangers, change your region to porous media and then in physics options select dual stream heat exchanger. you will need two regions for the heat one for fluid flow and one for air.
select both regions, right click and create interface. this will create a region interface, then you can input your experimental data into that interface under interface tab.

you will need to setup some conditions in regions too. like fluid mass flow and etc.

I have done this many time. let me know if you need more help.

THanks,
Ara

After a long time I am back to the same question.

defining the boundaries and the domains are fine. However, I wonder if you used the 'Q Map' option to define characteristics of your heat exchangers.

It asks for the mass flow rates of cold and hot streams and also the heat transfer rate in the HEX, which is fine - there is another option to specify 'cold inlet T' and 'hot inlet T'. However, these two values are not fixed and may vary with the operating condition in the HEX.

Any comment on this?

thanks.
