Help with meshing thin regions for fluid flow

Hi,

does anyone have any recomendations for meshing very thin regions to model fluid flow? I have reasonably simple geometry where the inlet pipe is 2mm in diameter goes into a larger 5mm dia cylinder and then flows across up and across a very narrow gap, .2mm, between two parallel plates.

Using Star CCM+, is there any way of generating enough cells across the gap to capture the flow profile without using millions of polyhedral cells?
The thin mesher would seem to be ideal but Im not sure if it is suitable for fluid flow and the mesh become quite skewed at the junction between polyhedral and thin layer cells.

thanks for your help,

Barry

You should try some simple hex meshing for this problem.
