Regarding the models(mesh and physics conditions) parameters,porosity coefficients(tensors), Should we stick to the tutorials or are there any other models that we can choose according to our geometry and initial conditions?

Hi,

I would not recommend using the tutorials. They are just a basic representation on how to use the available model.

Most judicious judgement comes from the simulation objective. But in general you should get the data from your supplier, which strongly depends on the Radiator size, fin dimensions and fin pitch.

Hi,
We were expecting your reply.Thank you.
We are new to thermal analysis and are doing it for the first time for our Radiator.The changes made according to the tutorial are:Coolant mass flow rate,air velocity inlet,coolant inlet temperature.We do have values of radiator core values,from our manufacturer like fin density,fin pitch, no of tubes,dimensions of radiator(of course) but do not know how to assign it in the simulation.
And regarding the porous values we have iterated and haven't observed a serious change in temperature drop(around 0.05 degree C).So we did not change the porosity values and inertial values.
We are finding difficulties in providing the values we already know as we could not find the provision to it.
Even we cannot understand the difference in result coming due to changing UAG for air instead of coolant.Significance of it?Should we go for UAG air or not?
Any help regarding these doubts would be very helpful!

in the radiator data you received from the supplier, did you receive a table of Volume flow rate and Pressure Drop (PD)?

The radiator has to be a simple cuboid with Porous values assigned to it. These porous values ofcourse depends strongly on the HEX parameters which directly influences the PD of radiator. Hence you should ask your supplier for the tabular data of Volume Flow rate vs PD, or else directly ask the supplier for the porous values.

Radiator calculations are very simple. You just need to assign local coordinate system with x axis assigned to the thickness in the flow direction of the radiator. Then apply the Inertial and viscous porous resistance values (which I can give you, if you give me the table of Volume Flow rate vs Pressure Drop)

Porous values doesn't have anything to do with Temperature for the range of temperature operations in a radiator.

PM me your radiator data sheet. I will have a look at it.

After providing inertial and viscous resistance to the porous region , how to setup for heat transfer in starccm+.
