Hi,

Topics says it all. I found this explanation in the user manual:

"Reference values comprise numerical values that are unique to the continuum and may be used by one or more models within the continuum."

What does this actually mean? How does reference values differ from initial condition values?

Thank you!

Reference Values serve as reference, as a comparision-value, on which several values are based on.

Example for a Reference Values:

Reference Pressure: Atmospheric Pressure = ca. 1 bar
Pressure 1 = 10 bar gauge

This means the Absolute Pressure of Pressure 1 is 11 bar --> 10 bar gauge according to the Reference Pressure.

If u for example then set the Reference Pressure to 5 bar, then the Pressure 1 = 15 bar.

Initial Conditions:

initial conditions are starting values, which normally are used in a simulation for the first calulation/iteration/time-step.

Example:

Simulation of water running through a pipe:

Reference Value: Reference Pressure 1 bar

Initial Condition/Value of the water pressure in the pipe could be 5 bar.
After running ur simulation, u ll get an pressure result of 10 bar.

This means ur result is an absolut pressure of 11 bar (according to ur reference value) by starting ur simulation with an initialcondition of 5 bar meaning an absolut pressure of 6 bar.

Hope my example helped you.
Greetings, Claudio
