Dear All;
I have a tetra\prism 3D mesh generated by StarCCM+, and I want to export it into Ansys CFX. Could any body tell me how? I have export mesh with Tecplot and could read it into Ansys Fluent, but when reading Fluent case into CFX it shows an error: No 3D element. Has anybody ever read StarCCM+ mesh into CFX? Regards |

You can try the CGNS format, which is supported by both Star-CCM+ and CFX. However, for me it only worked for structured (hexahedral) meshes, I couldn't get it to work for tetras with prisms. For that I got more success with exporting as Tecplot from Star, importing into Fluent and saving as .cas. This is then imported into CFX successfully, but unfortunately for my case some of the pyramids which are formed between the tetras and the prisms got written out as polyhedral cells by Fluent and not recognized by CFX, so the mesh had holes in it and was not usable. Strangely some of the vertices got a little displaced too which is quite weird. I found this by exporting as CGNS from CFX and reading the mesh back into star and showing both the original and the reimported meshes no top of each other with some transparency, expecting a match but as I said some of the cells were a bit deformed. Long story short – I don't know how to use StarCCM+ meshes in CFX reliably.
