Free stream edge definition

Hello All;

I am studying flow transition over Naca0012. I have selected K-Omega model with Retheta-Gamma transition sub-model. I have also created a custom field function the same as that in help:

$WallDistance > 0.005?1:0

I have some questions about this function. Thanks a lot to any replies.

1- As I have understood, the free stream edge means boundary layer edge. Should we know the boundary layer thickness (Delta) over the airfoil before solution (where it consists of laminar -transition and turbulent regimes) ?!!!!!

2- In order to capture transition including T-S waves and separation bubble mechanisms, is the abovementioned offered function is enough or some special considerations must be taken.

Thanks a lot.

What is it that you are trying to capture, exactly? Transition location, separation bubbles, and reattachemnt location?

What is the point of the field function? I understand what it's doing, but not why its relavant.

Hi,

I have the same question. I am interested to find the location of transition.
