Hi
![]() I am new in using Star ccm+ and I am going to simulate a ship in deep water, I have tried to import a boat's geometry in Star ccm in IGES format. I found that imported geometry is not a solid body but is a surface. I tried different ways to make a solid body (Sew, offset, extrude and ...) but they were not helpful. is there any body to help me with some recommendations? this is the geometry Immagine.jpg |

use the surface wrapper.

Thanks MBdoneCFD for your reply, I can close the surface but i can not fill inside the boat! i can not make a solid part. in fact i can not extract boat from the domain. if i subtract or extract the result would be a domain which its faces are not consistently oriented. i do not know maybe i did not understand its concept well enough.

Hi,
1. Create another region, named as solid. 2. Make required surfaces as interface (baffle/contact interface etc...whichever is needed) whichever are in contact with fluid. 3. Put rest of the solid surface (upper part of boat) in solid region so make "no free edges". 4. you will get separate region (fluid & solid) after volume mesh. |

Thanks guys,
Your answers were really helpful. By means of surface wrapper (extracting and repairing feature) I made a unity computational domain. It seems Ok and I also became more familiar with the software ![]() Best regards, |
