CAD related problem in star ccm+

3 Attachment(s)
Hi ,

I am trying to creat a cylindrical profile in the CAD PART OF STAR CCM+for heat transfer simulation .I created the geometry using the revolve tool . I want to divide and name different parts of this pipe(for eg- inner wall, outer wall, inlet , outlet) . I am able to select the inner_wall phase . However , when I try selecting the outer_wall of the pipe , I am unable to do so , because it selects the whole part . Can someone please explain me how to do this . I am going to attach three screenshots to explain my problem .Attachment 48528

it may look like you selected the whole part but it could just be the outer wall,

another way is to select things you know, inner wall, right click, hide, outlet, right click hide and so on until you only have the outer wall left and give it a name or it takes the default name

you can also do this using split by patch after you generated the part

If you want to have a work flow where you make a change in the CAD (design parameter) and automatically update your mesh and start running again, than trying to define surfaces in the CAD is important.

If you just want to create the CAD and never change or update it, splitting by patch is a good idea or also in the surface repair tool you can assign or create surfaces,

Hi kevin , @marmot
Thanks for the suggestion . hiding the faces worked for me .
I have one more question . If I have to define one end of the pipe as inlet of the flow and the other end as outlet , how and at which face/edge should I do that ? Since my pipe is hollow .
Thanks
