Hi all,

This may seem like a simple thing but I'm trying to visualise the velocity profile of my flow at different points inside my pipe network. I have tried following article 12693 on the Steve portal however I cant understand what way to go about it once it starts creating the intersecting planes and the threshold part. So I'm trying to create a line prob on a plane which is perpendicular to my flow, however every time I try and create it its left of in space rather than on the plane.

Is there something that has to be done with the input parts and snap to part selections? I have a different coordinate system for each pipe as they are not in-line with my laboratory system and the planes being used are all perpendicular to the respective flow paths but I cannot get the line probs to stay on the plane

Or can anyone shed any light on the intersecting planes and the threshold part in Article 12693?

Regards,

Ed

Perhaps instead of a line probe, you make a plane of a plane

lets say the flow is in the x-direction, so you have a plane in the y-z, x is normal, now make a new derived part, where your input is this plane and choose the normal to be either y or z, now plot this in a geometry scene is it a line.

The snap part, I don't really use it, but also be careful what coordinate you use, if you use a local coordinate to create the plane, you should also use that local coordinate for the line probe or 2nd plane.

Thanks for the input Marmot. I cannot get the the article 12693 idea to work, but I have something from the line prob method. Cant say I'm a fan of the vector positioning in star, snapping to verticals and edges/vertices would be a helpful addition. My current velocity plot shows the profile having approx 30m/s at the wall which is clearly wrong. How are you supposed to accurately position the line prob end points to pick up the pipe edges? I'm assuming the pipe where I'm measuring should be the input part, the coordinate system is selected as per the individual pipe and representation of the plot set to volume mesh? It doesnt seem to pick up the pipe diameter either, is it possible to get it 0 in the middle on the x-axis?

Nevermind, upping the points to 3000 finally shows me zero at the wall and the coordinate system was positioned on the pipe surface while trying to get the article 12693 method to work so that explains the x-axis measurement
