Smooth Large Particles

In my situation, I have to have my particles be larger than the mesh cell volume. There is an option to enable Smooth Large Particles. There is an article that says it only works for two-way coupling (that is what I am using), however there is no information or documentation on what it does exactly. I am not confident it is doing what I want it to do.

Has anyone seen anything on how it works or any situations where it was applied successfully? There is a lack of information about what SLP is and I have not seen it referenced anywhere.

The best guess I have is they are averaging the nearest mesh elements for their relevant properties and forces and then applying them to the particles.
