Runaway Solver Time

I am doing a DEM simulation with rigid body motion using an Overset Mesh. The simulation has no problem injecting particles and settling.
When I begin translating a block through the particles the solver time per time step increases every step, so my total solver time increases exponentially with time. If no additional particles are entering the simulation, why would the solver time keep increasing? |

After 100 attempts I have had 2 simulations run smoothly but neither sim will repeat their success when the solution is cleared and re-run.
Maybe there is some instability in the DEM solver and Overset mesh combination, I don't know whether to increase or decrease either time step. Mesh size: 0.005m translation velocity: 0.1m/s implicit unsteady time step: 0.01s DEM Solver time scale 0.2 DEM Solver grid scale: 1 Last edited by jpd03c; March 3, 2017 at 13:09. |

Enabling load balancing fixed the problem.
