How to simulate a pile of static particles on the flow channel

Hi,
I came across a difficult problem. I'm trying to do this simulation using STAR-CCM+:
a static pile of particles is rested on a flow channel and the fluid flow will flow across the pile of particle. I'm trying to simulate this process to study the particle movement.
How to create the pile of particles on the flow channel that is initially static?

I don't know if it works for sure or not. But I can suggest one method. Create a DEM particles to make the pile. For this create a region where you need a pile of particles an then make it's wall non-penetrable for DEM particles. Calculate for how many particles do you want. Freeze flow solver and all except DEM. The n run (DEM only) for definite time based on you calculation for pile. Then unfreeze flow solver make wall penetrable and run the simulation. Hope this works, I am sorry if it doesn't .

Hi, ashokac7,
Thank you so much for your reply! Your idea is valuable to me.
Just a few more questions:
1. How to freeze all the solvers than DEM?
2. Whether the wall be penetrable or not is set in boundary conditions for DEM particles right? What if I use derived parts for injector?
Thank you so much for your help!

Just a few more questions:
1. How to freeze all the solvers than DEM? Expand the solver node, click on Segregated flow and then in properties panel blow, check the Freeze flow
2. Whether the wall be penetrable or not is set in boundary conditions for DEM particles right? Yes What if I use derived parts for injector? yes you can, that's your choice
Thank you so much for your help!

Hope this works. But I can not say for sure. See answers above in RED
