Hi all,

My simulation is modelling the heat transfer into a pipe from outside, constant temperature condition, with fully developed fluid flowing through. Currently, I'm interested in a plain tube with nothing inside but will have to model with a twisted tape insert to promote turbulence later.

I have a few questions on general setting up of the physics and mesh since I'm still pretty new to using CFD.

1. Which turbulence model is most appropriate? I see that many simulations use K-Epsilon but during research I saw that SST K-Omega is more suitable for heat transfer sims (does this still apply at high Re?).

2. Following on, which value of Y+ should I aim for? I have a general understanding of how to set up the prism layer with regards to Y+, # of layers and growth rate and that I should carry out a refinement test to properly determine independent values but I'm a bit lost on which Y+ values are suitable for a given turbulence model.

3. Any suggestions for a good way to refine mesh through small gaps (~5% of diameter)? Currently just trying volumetric controls manually

All help is appreciated even if you can only point me in the right direction for one of my questions. Please just ask if you would like pictures or more info.

Thank you!
