How to Monitor the Air Gap?

Dear all
I'm simulating a semi using DFBI and overset mesh. And I need to monitor the air gap, which is defined as the vertical distance between water surface and the bottom of the deck (like d1.png, not d2.png). It is easy to obtain the wave elevation of a static point (such as x=1,y=1). However, during the simulation the semi moves. Now I created a XYZ Internal Table recording Position[Z] of the free surface. If there is any way to interpolate the table only use position x and y, I can easily obtain a WaveHeight field function and therefore solve the problem. Do you have any idea to deal with this issue? I NEED YOUR HELP! Thanks very much for your reply. |

is point p on the base of the deck fixed to the deck and thus is wobbling around or on a static vertical plane and intersecting the base of the deck at different locations?

p is fixed to the deck. Its (x,y,z) coordinate is constant in the semi-coordinate-system. And it changes in the laboratory frame. |

it is easy to track the motion of that point - create a point derived part at that location p and in the semi's csys and this will move with the motion
then do a maximum report on position z on this point in the lab csys tracking the wave height directly below this point as it moves is a bit harder since the way we normally do that is with two intersecting vertical planes to create a vertical line which then intersect the wave surface isosurface but section plane origins can't be set as parameters or field functions eg based on the report of p's x and y location at each timestep so the way i would do this is to run the case via a looping java macro and at each timestep report on the x and y of p into the macro and then change the two planes origin from the macro - not hard and a very handy technique to to lots of trickier operations |

My solution is using matlab to interpolate the free surface XYZ Internal Table after simulation. But it takes huge memory space to save the tables. Using Java macro is a good idea! I'll try it. |
