Insufficient Virtual Memory

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everybody,

It is a pleasure to finally post in the forum after having read for so long. Letīs go right to it.

At the moment I have a structure meshed at 7 million cells. When I try to mesh finer (I should, it seems to coarse for the study), right at the point where the volume mesh is being created, I get the following error message in red letters:

A request for memory failed. This is typically due to insufficient virtual memory. Command: GenerateVolumeMesh

Here is the thing, the PC has 32GB of RAM, so that doesnīt seem to be the problem. Yet, the memory is failing somehow. Does anybody know what could be happening? Apparently what is underlined in red in the image reaches its maximum.

Hi,

Maybe.. your new mesh continua setting requires too many cells..

Don't try to make volume mesh directly.

Try to make surface mesh first.

Your memory usage is already 84%. STAR-CCM+ requests to allocate more memory from the system, and the system denies the request as it would take you over 100%. You need to coarsen the mesh, get more memory, or free memory in usage already.

Remember doubling the surface size of a structured mesh will not double the number of cells, it will octuple it, since 2^3=8. 56M cells is far too much for 32GB of memory to handle.

Thank you for the insight! At the moment there are other things that need polishing in the simulation, so Iīll keep the suggestions for the near future.
