Does anyone have experience with Dealing with internal interfaces? I have a directed mesh in which the main section of the wing is created and an unstructured mesh which has the rest of the flow domain contained along with the wing tip.

My issue lies that if I reduce the spacing towards the tip of the C type mesh, it will give better transition onto the tip but causes the simulation to explode. I want a near perfect transition from one grid onto another but cannot seem to find a way to do this even while changing meshing and interface parameters.

Likewise are there any structured Onera M6 grids available for STAR CCM+?

If you want a perfect transition you have to use the same topology cells.

You can use the interface to extrude the unstructured mesh along the wing instead of using the directed mesh, that's really the only way to make it perfect but still give you the long spanwise cells you want.

Thanks for your reply. I thought this would be the case unfortunately. I'm looking to have my grid as structured as possible. Are you aware of any Onera M6 structured grids available?

Hi Pierce,

your hunch on the mesh transition is correct. Having many cells neighboring a very large cell are a major source for divergence. The large cell will always even out any input from the smaller cells, which makes it very difficult for the solver to converge as you have experienced.
