flow uniformity downstream a metallic foam

Hello,

I would like to evaluate the flow uniformity for a flow downstream a metallic foam. Is it correct to use porous region technique to evalute flow uniformity? Or is there any other way ?

I know the foam properties like pores per inch material of foam.

Thanks,
Yogesh

The porous media model is (for the most part) a linear isotropic homogeneous approach. You can't get the velocities of a pore and in-between pores.

Given a uniform flow in front of the porous media, there will be a uniform flow after it. You can't simulate the disturbance of the pores in the porous media and how they de-homogenize the flow.

Given a non-uniform flow in front of the porous media, there will be a slightly more uniform flow after it due to the Darcy term. The porous media homogenizes the flow, and this you can simulate.

I concur with the above statement, but would point out that the physical velocity formulation for porous media (as opposed to the superficial velocity formulation) can give net velocity through the pore structure. This will not, however, model the microscale jets in the outflow emanating from the pores.

The model is still intended to capture bulk downstream effects.

Thank you so much for your responses. The cross section of my Porous media also keeps changing. Inlet and Outlet areas of the porous media are not the same.

I will try to prepare a smaller model of the same porous structure and see the effects of change in area!!
