Applying vibrations to pipe

Hello All,

I am new to STAR-CCM and am really struggling to figure out how to go about setting up this simulation. Basically, I want to set-up a simulation where I have a flexible pipe which has water flowing through it and oscillates up and down. I should also add that for this simulation I am not really interested on the interactions between the water and the pipe but rather just how the flow changes as the pipe oscillates transversely. Based on what I have learned from about STAR-CCM so far, it seems that the morphing motion with a custom field function would be the best way to go about this, but I cannot for the life of me get anything to work. Is there something I am missing? Has anyone else attempted a similar scenario? Thank you all for your help in advance! :)

demonstrates the type of oscillatory motion I hope to impose on the pipe/fluid domain.

the tutorial Tutorials > Solid Stress > Fluid-Structure Interaction: Vibrating Pipe is a good starting point and just ignore all the solid stress stuff and its region and apply the required motion to the pipe wall boundary in some sort of field function as a vertex velocity probably

Ok, great! I will look at that, thank you! Is there any documentation or tutorials on creating vertex velocity field functions that you could point me towards?

this tutorial gets you quite a long way to what you need: Tutorials > Motion > Morphing: Cylinder with Boundary Motion

but you will need a more complex field function that includes $Time in the formula to create harmonic motion. and i would consider using one of the other morpher displacement spec. methods called 'total' probably rather than velocity

Ok, great! I will give that a shot. Thank you!

Thank you all for your help! Those tutorials were extremely helpful and I was able to get the vibrating motion I was looking for. Thanks again!
