Hello all,
My name is Martynas and I am student at Coventry University. Currently I am doing a project where I need to evaluate the affect of surface roughness (bumps) on a vehicle profile. This is a 2D steady state simulation. So far, I have my baseline simulation working. And I was wondering would it be possible to automate the change of position of a bump/bumps on a surface? (let’s say the bump would move 100mm forward along the surface with each sim) I need them to follow the curve of the profile (basically the outer edge). My aim is to compare a number of simulations with different bump placement. Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi Martynas,
yes, it is possible, but the question is how you realized it. If you have a bump in the simulation, the main question is how you introduced the bump. Is it all from an external CAD system, then you need to focus on automating the process inside STAR-CCM+ as much as you can. If you have drawn the geometry inside STAR's CAD modeler, then you can parameterize the bump there and just update the simulation. So the answer to your question depends a lot on how your process is built up. If you look at a semi-automated solution, STAR-CCM+'s 'filter' functionality is very powerful and easy to implement. Good luck, Sebastian |
