Porous Region vs Porous Media Model
 

Can someone explain to me how to implement the porous region method vs the porous media model? I understand the differences, but I only see 'porous media' listed under the list of models.

Is it as simple as defining a region as porous with and without the 'porous media' model enabled?

Right. Porous region you set in the region properties, by changing the region type from fluid to porous region.

Porous media you activate the physics model.

Here's a follow-up question, to which I also think I know the answer. The documentation on the superficial velocity formulation (porous region method) clearly states that the pressure losses are introduced by momentum sinks and then shows the momentum balance.

However, the physical velocity formulation (porous media model), does not explicitly state this and shows the differential form of the momentum equation with the same tensors and superficial velocity vectors.

In both cases, momentum sources are the mathematical tool used, no? The only difference is that you are accounting for the mass fraction taken up by the solid phase.
