About Symmetry Plane

Hi, I have a question about Boundary Condition:Symmetry Plane .
If I set "Symmetry Planes" at the both red and blue boundaries in the attached image, What result can I get from it? Result(1)? or result(2)? Thanks. |

Hi, I think (2) is right. Think of the red line in (1) being a symmetry BC in upper quadrant and a wall in lower - that would break the symmetry assumption. If your problem really has 2 planes of symmetry, then you can model just a quarter or the domain like you show in the first picture. Starccm doesn't create any additional geometry, the symmetry BC is just that - a boundary condition. Solution in the lower right quadrant is fixed by the symmetries (see attached picture for an example).
