Alberto Ribera is on a distinguished road
Hello,

I am trying to simulate the acoustics of a room with STAR-CCM+, but have been unsuccesful finding enough reference material to do it. The main problem is that acoustic simulations in STAR-CCM+ focus in noise generation from moving elements, and what I intend to make involves simple (point) noise sources, and to analyse the distribution of sound in the room and walls, its interaction with objects, etc.

Can anyone help me find some help? I have searched for long but not found anything. The tutorials provided have the problem I highlighted previously so I do not know what to do. I even tried other software (I-Simpa) but I do not trust it and limits the quality of the mesh I would like to implement.

Thanks!

What we need to know is what type of analysis you are doing, nearfield or farfield? Nearfield you brute force using DNS and farfield you use the aeroacoustics modules in Star. Note that nearfield doesn't mean physically near, it's an analytical regime where you solve everything.

For nearfield, use an unsteady transient calculation using your equation of state of choice. Turbulence model needs to be the one appropriate for the mean flow, but otherwise is not important for the acoustics. Figure out how to model your sound source. Typically this is a patch on a boundary that you make either a pressure inlet or velocity inlet to mimic a speaker. Apply your sound source to this speaker.

Then set up all the probes and monitors for extracting the results so you can do your post-processing. Install point probes for monitors and what not.
