Hi,

This is my first post on these forums and I'm relatively new to Star-CCM and CFD as a whole so please bear with me.

I've recently been given a project by a university professor to run a basic open-channel flow simulation over some ripples. However, in a recent meeting he suggested that I should make the mesh finer towards the ripples (as is done with the prism layer) due to how we only care about the fluid in this region, but not so that this finer mesh layer follows the ripples, but rather is adjacent to the rest of the mesh. A picture of the mesh is attached for context.

Any ideas on how to go about doing this would be greatly appreciated, because I'm completely stumped!

I think you are being asked to make the core cell size (not the prism layers) smaller near the ripples. Particularly between the ripples and at least 1x ripple height above the ripple tips. Try creating a block part and using that to create a volumetric control that sets the cell size near the surface (again, not the prism layers) to no less than 2/3 the global value and probably change the growth rate to give you a slower transition everywhere.
