evancreaven is on a distinguished road
Hi so as part of a project for formula student, I am doing analysis on the air intake manifold. I have a lecturer supervising me and they are hvaing some issues with my boundary conditions.

I was using a mass flow inlet, where the mass flow was calculated from the draw of the engine's displacement. And I was using pressure outlets for the runner outlets. There is a restrictor within the system which acts as a nozzle bring the flow to between 0.6 to 0.7 mach so it has to be modeled as a compressible flow. My lecturer says this is wrong as that isnt the pressure at the outlet. I agree but have no idea of how to capture this.

They now think i should model the cylinder to create my boundary conditions which to me seems like a bit of a stretch so just thought I would ask and see if people more knowledgeable than me and maybe the lecturers had some ways around this?
