Alternate 2D meshing tool

Hello,

I have been recently working with STAR-CCM+. The 3D meshing tools available are good but unfortunately the generation of a 2D mesh is quite painful and there is no way for you to generate the mesh you have in mind since everything is automated.
Does anybody know if there is a free code available out there compatible with STAR-CCM+ that can easily generate a 2D mesh? I'm looking for a Gambit-like type of code that runs on windows and that allows you to control the number of nodes and their spacing on the edges of the geometry.

Thanks!

If it runs on Ubuntu, it would be ok too.....

Any idea??

Thanks.

Thanks for your input. As far as I understood, I would need Tecplot to use gridpro.....we do not have it here, that is why I'm looking for a open source or free code...

There is an Ubuntu distribution which contains a lot of different free CAE softwares. I know, it includes some meshing tools too, but I'm not sure any of there will meet your requirements (too long ago I had a look on it).
Just look on www.caelinux.com. There is a live-version you can try directly from dvd without having to install it.

Let us know whether it works or not.

I looked at the website and, even if it does not work, caelinux seems to be definetely a good thing to have!!! However, I will try and and let you know.....

Thanks!
