thin membranes and FSI
Is starccm+ able to compute a thin membrane deflection due to pressure/viscous forces using the FSI/morphing capabilities? That is, the membrane is modelled as a baffle, and not a finite thickness solid body. An application would be sailboat sails. Most likely need to couple to FEA code. I see a CD-Adapco press release using the FEA code SCOOP, but I am not able to find who sells that code.

A00016940,
Star ccm+ is able to couple to a number of FEA programs by file based data mapping. It is also able to couple to abaqus in "co-simulation" mode that enables concurent running of both programs. I have not used it in the context of modeling sails but among the supported abaqus elements are shell and membrane elements. I don't know whether there is a prohibition against double sided surfaces in data mapping scheme. Regards, Dave |
