biodiesel operated diesel engine simulation-is it possible?
:confused:Hi everybody!
I want to simulate a diesel engine using biodiesel as fuel.Is it possible to carryout the combustion analysis with the available combustion model in star-cd.One of my friend who knows CFD says combustion anlaysis of biodiesel fuel cannot be carried out using star-cd.Is it correct. If correct how can i simulate.I am eagerly expecting for your replies. Thanking you With Regards |
What reason(s) did your friend cite?
Off the top of my head, I can not think of a reason why the StarCD models are not as suited to biodiesel as they are to "regular" diesel. You will have to update all the appropriate fuel properties. |
He says that STAR-CD combustion model was developed for hydrocarbons(like diesel or petrol) and not for oxygenated fuels like biodiesel. since the combustion (chemical) reactions of biodiesel are different from diesel we cannot use any combustion model of STAR-CD.

I think that you CAN simulate biodiesel combustion in star-cd, probably you can't use a "ready-to-use" setup but you can do a new setup for this kind of simulation.
For example you can define what kind of reactions takes place in your combustion chamber, in order to take into account the oxygen "generated" from the fuel |
