Hi there,

I'm quite new to Ansys but I have to analyse a steel beam-to-column connection using Ansys.

I've been at it for almost a week fixing it but no matter what i do, it doesn't seem to be solving successfully.

I initially used solid bodies but the solver is taking too long so, I'm using midsurface shell bodies for the beam and column. I'm getting an error now that some elements in the bolts are experiencing high distortion. I've attached the archive file and the error I'm getting.

Any help is appreciated to get some results so, I can write my discussion for my thesis. At the moment, I'm very worried that I won't be able to do it.

Gweher will become famous soon enough

According the output you have not a good quality mesh -> check the Nut 8 (also on other parts). In your case the nut is not properly defined. Also the bolt suffers from a H-grid type mesh (leading to bad quality elements on the corners). To generate an O-grid mesh type you should include either a mapped face mesh or split up your geometry.

Depending on your hardware you need to adjust the number of cores you allocate for the simulation (within workbench or inside mechanical under tools > solve options).

Have fun
