Import Material from Solidwork to Ansys
1 Attachment(s)
Dear Friends,
I would like to import the material properties used in SolidWorks to Ansys. My Ansys version is 18.1 and I use the following step in the link(https://www.padtinc.com/blog/importi...nical-finally/). But I couldn't able to see the CAD Material Library in the engineering data. The last option for me to write the entire properties from the solid-work to Ansys. Please assist Thanks |
Are you importing a native SolidWorks file (e.g. *.sldprt) or neutral file format (e.g. parasolid) into ANSYS? Perhaps it requires the SolidWorks Geometry Interface licence from ANSYS. Neither of these is mentioned in your hyperlink.

My guess is that using a neutral file format such as parasolid is the problem. Try importing a native SolidWorks file format, you will see the red SolidWorks icon next to Geometry in the ANSYS System. Have a look at the CAD Configuration Manager or Client ANSYSINC_ADMIN Utility programs.

I tried to look at the CAD configuration Manager and I couldn't able to find the Geometry Interface and even the box on the solid work is not clicked. I don't have admin control on this. Do you think I can ask to get the interface geometry or ask an admin to click the solid work in Ansys CAD Configuration? |
Try using a native SolidWorks file format, it could be that simple.

If you are only looking at SS316 then just create that material in Engineering Data rather than trying to have the data past across via the CAD file.
In alot of situations it is just easier to do things manually. As more time is wasted trying to get the clever option to work. If you are unable to load into ANSYS the SolidWorks native file formats (part or assembly files) then I assume that youu have a licence problem. Are you using a commerical licences but you do not have the SolidWorks Geometry Interface licence. If you are using the ANSYS Student version then that appears only to load in neutral CAD file formats (https://www.ansys.com/academic/free-student-products). As well as SpaceClaim files. |
