SU2 Installation Error on CentOS 7

I'm having trouble compiling the SU2 7 from source on CentOS 7 for a while.
Meson seem to run properly and the configuration step seems ok. However during compilation via ninja, there seems to be a problem with the linker while linking the SU2_CFD:

/stuff/easybuild/eb-install/software/binutils/2.31.1-GCCcore-8.2.0/bin/ld.gold: fatal error: /stuff/easybuild/eb-install/software/OpenMPI/3.1.3-GCC-8.2.0-2.31.1/lib: pread failed: Is a directory

As you can see, I've used GCCcore 8.2.0 and OpenMPI 3.1.3, but the issue persists with other versions of the compilers.

Any thoughts?

Your question is a bit old and maybe you already solved the problem, but since there is no answer and I faced with the same error (all on CentOS7), here is the solution that worked for us and who may be usefull for someone else : install and use a newer version of pkg-config

Indeed, the pkg-config version from CentOS7 (0.27.1) seems to be too old and not suitable for this SU2 installation, while using pkg-config version 0.29.2 (even if it is also old , but it's the last one available) makes this error disappear.
