I've been confused about geometry calculation by using SU2. I'm now working on the benchmark optimization problem from ADODG, case 4, CRM wing optimization. The details can be found at Martins's MDO lab ("http://mdolab.engin.umich.edu/content/aerodynamic-design-optimization-workshop"). In this case, there are volume and wing section airfoil thickness constraints. However, when I use the command SU2_GEO CRM.cfg, the "of_eval.dat" gives the wrong value of wing volume and thickness, and the curves in "wing_description.dat" are not smooth. I used the lasetest version SU2 v6.2.0 and get this wrong results. But when I used SU2 v5.0.0, the same command SU2_GEO, I got the right value of wing volume. Could anyone help me check this problem? I wonder if the lasetest version have the problem about geomentry calculation? The mesh can be downloaded from "http://mdolab.engin.umich.edu/content/aerodynamic-design-optimization-workshop" and my CRM.cfg is in the attachment. Could anyone help me to check the .cfg file and solve this geometry calculation problem. Thanks a lot!

Hi chenzhou
I wonder have you got any results on the optimization of the CRM wing? I have worked on it for a few weeks but still cannot get a better result. I tried a lot of settings. I still did not know why the optimization cannot find a better one. If you have any progress on it, I will appreciate it for sharing the experience. Cheers. Yonghong |

In fact, I used SU2 but also didn't make any progress. Have you ever checked your geometry calculation? I believe that there is something wrong with the geometry calculation of CRM wing and the constraints are really strict. Maybe you can substitue SU2 by ADflow, which was released by MDOlab from Martins group in github. Best wishes. Chenzhou |
