Hello,

I downloaded, compiled SU2 v7.0.4 from source. When I run shape_optimization.py or SU2_DEF I do not seem to get any output to visualize the FFD boxes.

I have tried adding VISUALIZE_SURFACE_DEF=YES although I am not sure what effect this had.

Can anyone explain how to do this? Or has this functionality fallen though the cracks with the latest version.

There also doesn't seem to be a file containing the history of the design variables - apart from possibly in the cryptic .pkl files.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,
Try enabling also VISUALIZE_VOLUME_DEF and make sure OUTPUT_FILES contains a surface format e.g. SURFACE_PARAVIEW.

Hi Pedro,

I tried your suggestion, i.e. having VISUALIZE_VOLUME_DEF = YES, OUTPUT_FILES = (..., SURFACE_TECPLOT), DV_KIND = FFD_SETTING, and all the other FFD parameters set up correctly for creating the FFD box.

Then I would run SU2_DEF ***.cfg and the output would be a volume_deformed.vtu and surface_deformed.vtu files which do not contain the FFD box but only the volume/surface mesh.

Any idea what else could work for the visualization of the FFD box itself?

Hi Zeno,

Try adding TECPLOT or TECPLOT_ASCII to the output files.
I guess the logic is that the FFD is considered a volume output.

Cheers,
Pedro

Hi, I'm using the 7.1.1 version at the moment and tried the above suggestions. On using the suggestions, I'm able to get the surface_deformed.szplt and volume_deformed.szplt files which depict the deformed meshes. The options VISUALIZE_VOLUME_DEF and VISUALIZE_SURFACE_DEF are apparently deprecated in the latest version, and I still can't visualize the FFD boxes. Is there any other way to visualize them?

Thanks

if you use the following flags,

VISUALIZE_SURFACE_DEF= YES
VISUALIZE_VOLUME_DEF= YES
OUTPUT_FILES= (TECPLOT,SURFACE_TECPLOT)

you must be able to see

surface_deformed_00000.szplt
volume_deformed_00000.szplt
ffd_boxes.dat

which are showing the deformed surface, volume and ffd boxes respectively.
