How to specify a restart file for SU2 during adjoint optimization

Hi All,

I'm working on optimizing an aircraft inlet in SU2 that is sensitive to initial conditions in terms of SU2's stability - if the initial solution is not carefully set the solver will sometimes NaN. I have a good grasp of how to initialize a given design in SU2 when just running in analysis mode, but I was wondering if the same could be done for the DIRECT solution step during shape optimization. Is there a way I can point the shape optimizer at an existing SU2 restart file for the DIRECT solution step? Any help would be appreciated on this!

Hi,
I think you just need the config you use to start the optimization to have restart on, and the initial file to be available.
If you want something more advanced I recommend taking a look here https://su2code.github.io/tutorials/Species_Transport/

Hi Pedro,

I tried doing what you said earlier but the first iteration direct solution still has the restart option disabled, and then the optimizer dies during the adjoint process because the restart setting that I put into the optimization cfg file breaks it. It does not look like SU2 is setup for this at this time, though notionally it seems like an easy feature to incorporate.

I will have a look at the Species Transport tutorial and let you know if that helps me with this issue. Thank you for your input.
