general unstructured question (2D blunt body)

1 Attachment(s)
I have been running a 2D 0.5in radius blunt leading edge to compare heat transfer to Fay-Riddell. (mach 20)

I have a baseline structured grid, 25x65, that gives a reasonable prediction of the Fay-Riddell stagnation point heating.

I took that same grid and diagonalized it in Pointwise, and then ran it again with SU2. Not only is the heat transfer way off, but the flowfield behind the shock is different.

Is this just to be expected with an unstructured grid?

Hey Tom,

That's very curious... There are known problems with mis-aligned unstructured cells and strong shock waves, but you have a pretty high quality mesh and I wouldn't expect the results between the two to be significantly different in this case.

Are you plotting surface quantities on the x-axis, or is this along the stagnation line?

It almost looks as if one case was run with an isothermal boundary condition and the second with an adiabatic. Could you send be the configuration file, and the two meshes? I'll try to take a look at it in more detail if I catch a break today.

Thanks,
Sean

The heat transfer is along the surface from stagnation point to top of radius.

I sent the files via email.

Thanks for looking at it!
