Dear all,

As an unexperienced CFDer. i am setting up a configuration file and am having troubles with some parameters. As a start, i would want to ask which numerical method can be used best.

In my case, i would want to calculate an Euler flow over an aircraft which is meshed with tetrahedrals (Tetgen mesh generator). Should i use the Green Gauss method or the Weighted Least Sqaures method as a numerical method to compute spatial gradients? What are the main reasons to choose between these two methods?

My initial choice would be Green Gauss due to the surface curvatures that are present. These cause difficulties for WLS methods according to a paper i read. http://www.ewp.rpi.edu/hartford/~ern...aa20033986.pdf

Thanks in advance!

For Euler simulations, Green Gauss works great. If you have a hybrid grid with boundary layer (NS simulations) then WLS is a better choice.

Thanks for using SU2,
Francisco

Thanks for your quick reply!

I saw in the testcases that the DLRF6 aircraft configuration indeed had a Green-Gauss method for an Euler flow but the OneraM6 wing tutorial used weighted-least-squares for an Euler flow. Does this have to do with the fact that the OneraM6 testcase uses multigrid or is there another reason why the weighted-least-squares was used?

Not really, we just wanted to test most of the combinations.

Thanks for your interest in SU2,

Cheers,
Francisco
