Hi.

i have done some simulation with this method, it is really good because there is no need to deform the grid. but the farfield boundary also picthing and plunging.
is it a strict unsteady algorithm? anyone can tell me the difference between this method and moving reference frame method in Fluent.

In addition, codes like fluent use dynamic mesh+UDF or sliding mesh to solve these problem.such as

Hi,

Thanks for the post, and it's great to hear that you're interested in unsteady simulations on dynamic meshes in SU2. We have quite a few options for these types of simulations, including: steady flows with moving wall BCs, unsteady calculations with rigidly transforming meshes, and unsteady calculations with dynamically deforming meshes. For the dynamic mesh calculations, we can currently prescribe things such as pitching, plunging, and rotation.

At the moment, sliding mesh capabilities are not available, but these are only necessary for calculations that feature multiple surfaces in relative motion to one another. Otherwise, the options above should cover most applications of interest. You may find the notes here useful for trying these capabilities in SU2 (and there are some test cases now available as well): http://su2.stanford.edu/documents/SU...edAnalysis.pdf.
