Hi there,

I recently downloaded the software, installed it and got it all set up.

Then I tried to figure out how to use it. I looked through the github page at some of the tutorials and understand how to create the meshes (more or less).

However, none of the example files that github refer to are included in the V4.0 download and there is no documentation. I have no idea what is required from the configuration file, nor what variables are available.

Any help and/or advice would be appreciated.

I want to stay with this program due to its open source nature.

Hello,

You can find many example on SU2 website (click on training there). You can download tutorials from Github as well.
You can create mesh in CGNS format from most of the standard commercial software. In configuration file of SU2 you can select CGNS option for mesh.

For setting up a problem, you can start with simple naca0012 tutorial (euler case). Offcourse you should have some basic CFD background to know all the parameters else you will get to know them with time. Start with available tutorials.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for the response. I am aware of the Github tutorials but, as I was saying, the resources required to complete these tutorials are not included in the v4 download. There is neither a TestCases nor QuickStart directory in the software which I downloaded.

Without these resources, I don't know where to begin with these tutorials.

I just found the videos on the SU2 training page, hopefully they will be of assistance.

Best wishes,
Ethan

Hi Ethan,

Are you downloading the current version of the source and building yourself, or downloading the binaries? I would recommend downloading the source for v4.0.1, which we just released a couple of weeks ago.

Either way, you should find the QuickStart folder inside that has the NACA 0012 from the QuickStart tutorial. We also now keep a TestCases/ folder inside of the SU2/ root with all of the configuration files that match with the meshes in the TestCases repository here (note that this is a different repository under the same organization on GitHub): https://github.com/su2code/TestCases.

From there, just copy the meshes into place alongside their config files (they share the same directory structure) and you should be all set with a full suite of test cases!

Hope this helps,
Tom
