Compressible flow with real gas properties
Hello All
Can SU2 be used to simulate compressible supersonic flow of CO2 through a converging-diverging ejector considering real gas properties of CO2? Can SU2 handle non-equilibrium two phase flows with phase change? Thanks |
Hi,
I was wondering if you ever managed to get this to work? At the moment I am trying to get such a simulation going. With standard air it seems to work, but not with real gas. The simulation gets stuck at the first iteration. Regards, Tom |
Hello Tom
We are basically interested in compressible two phase flows with phase change. I never tried SU2 for that not even with single phase flow with real gas properties. So I really ca not comment on this. I think SU2 does not have the capability to model phase change problems right now. If you know some tool for this please let me know. |
Hi,
Ok thanks for the response. With regards to your problem: It looks like OpenFOAM could be used, but it would require a significant amount of programming. It allows for 2-phase flow with phase change and it allows for compressible flow. However you probably need a lot of hardware to get the simulation going reliably and the programming efforts to combine the right pieces of the puzzle are significant I would assume. Might be best to see if there are groups working on similar projects. Regards, Tom |
Hello Tom
I do not know about OpenFOAM code structure and programming currently, but one has to implement "two fluid models" like the Seven equation model or Five equation model depending upon whether thermal and mechanical non-equilibrium is allowed or not. Also, Roe type schemes or Flux vector splitting based schemes give better resolution. OpenFOAM I think uses Kurganov-Tadmor central scheme. |
Hi,
It seems like that what you want is different from what I assumed it was. So than probably no OpenFOAM is not the most likely candidate. Regards, Tom |
