Hello,

I am trying to deform the airfoil boundary of a 2D mesh (naca0012 test/tutorial).
SU2 seems to have an option of deformation of DV_KIND= SURFACE_FILE with MOTION_FILENAME= mesh_motion_new.dat.

Running SU2_DEF without any dat file creates that file (as expected from the source code). This gives me the format, I then modify this file and rerun SU2_DEF, but no deformations occur.

What am I doing wrong there?

THanks,
nb

Thanks for your question
First, make sure that you are setting DV_MARKER
I'm not 100% sure, but MARKER_MOVING may also need to be set.

Hi, my answer may be incomplete as I'm dealing with this problem myself at the moment.
Once you have your modified mesh_motion_new.dat file these are the following inpt you have to set to make everything work:

GRID_MOVEMENT = YES

GRID_MOVEMENT_KIND = DEFORMING / EXTERNAL % They both work for me

MARKER_MOVING= ( airfoil ) % or whatever you have set

DV_KIND= SURFACE_FILE

DV_MARKER= ( airfoil )

MOTION_FILENAME= mesh_motion_new.dat

Running SU2_DEF this way it performs a mesh deformation with the new prescribed boundary. (Double check your output)

Given that, I'd be interested in performing an unsteady simulation where the boundary deforms with a prescribed shape every timestep. But I haven't been able yet to find a closure to the problem. So, if you get anything new about it I would really appreciate if you can share your experience here! Thanks!
