I am trying to do all the attached tutorials in the collection but the incompressible tutorials are not working. I am getting the following error (Incompressible laminar flat plate):

CONV_NUM_METHOD_FLOW: improper option value for type convect
WRT_SLICE: invalid option name. Check current SU2 options in config_template.cfg.
<end>
I have SU2 6.0.0 downloaded for windows10. The compressible tutorials are all working fine. Please help.

Hello,

Thanks for using SU2. The options you have specified for incompressible flow weren't implemented until SU2 6.1.0. I would suggest trying a more up-to-date version of SU2.

Let us know if you run into anymore issues.

Thanks for the explanation. But windows binaries are available for version 6.0.0 only. Can I compile the source code in my windows system? The instructions on the site do not explicitly tell how to compile from source. I have the latest MinGW installed on my system.

Thanks once again for your reply

I know that it is possible to compile on a windows system; however, I have no idea how to. Unfortunately, I am no help here

If you do find a solution/way to compile; the community would greatly appreciate it.

Hi kp137,

You can download the old source files from here https://github.com/su2code/SU2/releases/tag/v6.0.0. When you extract the .tar.gz or the .zip file, you can find the .cfg files in the test case folder.

Cheers.

Yes, you can install from the most recent (or any version) of the source on a windows machine.

Please see the instructions here:
https://su2code.github.io/docs/Windows-Installation/

The link only tells how to install from precompiled binaries and not how to compile from the source code itself. The procedure for compiling from source is given only for Linux and OS X systems.

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. I linked to the beginning of the windows installation documentation, if you continue to the third Windows section, 'Cygwin Build for Windows', you will find a way to build from the source in a linux-like environment.

I believe that it is also possible to use visual studios if you need to do a windows native installation, however my understanding is that the visual studios tools needed to do that are not free. I don't know for sure, so it may be worth looking into further; as most of the development team does not work with windows the documentation is correspondingly written with a unix/linux system in mind - if you are just getting started with compiling codes it will likely be easier to start with unix where you can follow the step-by-step instructions rather than learn to use visual studios in addition to SU2 right away.

also, the older versions of the tutorial input files which will work with v6.0.0 can be found along with the associated source code (which will likely be a faster fix for your issue)
