Discrete adjoint for multi-zone problems

Hi all,

I'm currently running a test case consisting of a stator and a rotor (mixed-flow turbine, two different zones linked through a mixing plane) and I am achieving decent convergence on the direct problem (based on RANS equations).

However, I am also interested in running the discrete adjoint only on the rotor to obtain the surface sensitivities. I can foresee some issues if I run the discrete adjoint on both of the zones simultaneously (not only runtime, but the stator can also cause adjoint divergence as its residuals are not very smooth) so my question is:

Is it, somehow, possible to run the discrete adjoint only on the rotor? This way it will save me time, computational power and issues with convergence.

Thanks in advance :)

Pablo
